A Day That I Will Never Forget!

Today I am going to tell you about an important lesson that I learned. My lesson that I learned is that you should never touch anything if you don’t know what it is. It is a very interesting story.

            My brother is allergic to wasp, bees, and any other stinging insect. If he gets stung by any of these bugs he has to get an epi-pen injected in his leg. An epi-pen has a steroid in it, and no not the kind of steroid that athletes use illegally. The steroid numbs his body so he will not swell up and stop breathing.

            One day I was bored and I saw the epi pen and decided to read the instructions just in case my parents weren’t home and we had to use it. Well I had my thumbs on the ends and I was rolling it as I read and apparently I was pressing the ends to hard and injected the epi-pen in my thumb. I felt this weird rush in my body and ran to my bedroom. I jumped onto my bed to see if I could sleep it off instead of going to my parents. That was a dumb thing to do. I got a napkin and put some ice in it and put it directly on my thumb. My mom’s friend, Cayenne, walked in and saw me on the couch. She asked me what was wrong and I told her that I accidentally stabbed myself with an epi-pen. She went and got my parents and told them about what happened and they rushed in. Cayenne immediately told my parents that she was a nurse and she took care of it all. I was very lucky that Cayenne was there. She told my mom that after you use an epi-pen you have to put it in an empty jug and duck tape it shut. She did exactly that and threw it away.

            My mom called the hospital and asked if I should do anything else. My thumb was a dark blue where the needle went in and purple all around it. Cayenne said that I should be fine tomorrow and that the needle just hit my bone barely and it will bruised for a few days.

            That is a day that I will never forget, and not to mention a great lesson, too.
